AVOCADO: THE NUTRITIONAL, HEALTH FACTS

We all know that avocados are known in the “Mexican” world for awesome dishes like burritos, tacos, salads, or the greatest of all ….. guacamole. Maybe you do, but do know about the benefits of them for the skin? You might know that too…. but today i want to go where nobody usually does. The nutritional facts, as well as the skin facts.

NUTRITIONAL/ HEALTH FACTS

First off, avocados have no cholesterol. Which is a good thing for the vegans/vegetarians (me). Many people think that they have the good cholesterol (HDL). But they don’t. Here is a amazing fact that you might want to know. NOTE: Anything that has a mother, a face, a liver, or is a mushroom…. has cholesterol.

They also have have the good fats in them… monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. Monounsaturated the same type of fat found in olive oil. Avocados lowers high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease or stroke. In one study of people with moderately high cholesterol levels, individuals who ate a diet high in avocados showed clear health improvements. After seven days on the diet that included avocados, they had significant decreases in total cholesterol and LDL  cholesterol (bad cholesterol), along with an 11% increase in health promoting HDL cholesterol. They are also a excellent source of potassium.

SKIN/BEAUTY FACTS

Avocados are widely known to be great sources of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is very vital in the normalcy of bodily functions and it’s considered to be an effective antioxidant. Antioxidants are supposed to protect polyunsaturated fatty acids in the membranes of body cells from free radical’s harmful nature. Free radical and unwanted toxins are obtained through the food, beverage and air taken in by our body. When situations go worse, these free radicals can eventually trigger cancer and other diseases.

The sterolins, or plant steroids, in avocados are thought to fight age spots and sun damage while moisturizing the skin. In addition, avocado increases collagen, which keeps the skin plump and elastic. Since skin absorbs the oils in avocado easily, it’s useful for aging skin and for people who suffer from conditions that cause drying and irritation.

AVOCADO FACE MASQUE

I believe i have posted one of these already… but if i have not, here is one.

Alot of times what happens with avocado masks is people want them to get hard or tight ton the skin. Well, here is a really good way to do that.

1/2 Avocado

1 Tbsp. apple Cider Vinegar (ACV post coming up this week!)

1 Tbsp. Green Clay

If it is not smooth enough add a little bit more Apple Cider Vinegar.

Mix all together until smooth. Apply to face. You can add more clay of you want, the 1 Tbsp should be enough. Test a little first to see if it is tight enough. Leave on for 15-30 min…. like always, no longer than an hour. rinse with warm water. Pat dry and use your normal lightweight moisturizer.
